Version history
Go back in one click.

Every save is kept. Compare, restore, or try a new look on a branch.

How it works

Every save is kept.
Going back takes one click.

  1. You save, it becomes a version

Yours, your team's and Buddy's. Each one says who made it and what changed.

The Version history panel in the Orderain builder listing today's saves, each with who made it and what changed, the newest tagged Editing and the published one tagged Live, with the Save button under the pointer
  2. See what changes before you go back

Open any version to see, page by page, what restoring it would change.

A named version open in Version history, listing what restoring it would change on the Home and Shipping pages and in the theme, with the pointer on Restore this version
  3. Restore moves the editor back

Nothing is lost and no copy piles up. Products, orders and customers are never touched.

The Go back to this version dialog: the editor goes back to the version, customers see it only after you publish, and products, orders and customers are not touched
  4. Publish when it is right

Pages and theme reach customers when you publish. The Live tag shows which version that is.

Version history after publishing, with the restored version tagged both Live and Editing, and the Publish button showing a green dot

Name the versions that matter

Before a redesign or a big sale, give what you have a name like Before the holiday look. It gets a star in your history, so it is easy to find and go back to.

The Save a version dialog in the Orderain builder, naming the current look Before the holiday look, with a note that it gets a star in your history

Undo what Buddy did

Every change Buddy makes to your store is its own version. Not what you wanted? Click Undo in the chat, or go back to any earlier version from your history.

Branches

Try a new look on a branch.
Your live store stays put.

A branch is a copy of Main, the design your customers see. Change it as much as you like. Customers keep seeing Main until you decide.

  1. The New branch dialog naming a branch Holiday look, explaining it is a copy of Main that customers do not see until it is published

    1 Start a branch

Give it a name and you get a copy of Main to work on.

  2. The builder on the Holiday look branch with a darker holiday theme, and a banner saying customers see Main, with Merge into Main and Switch to Main buttons

    2 Change anything

Edit pages, sections and the theme. Customers still see Main.

  3. The branch menu with Main marked Live, the Holiday look and Black Friday sale branches, and Make Holiday look live under the pointer, above Merge into Main, Rename branch and Delete branch

3 Make it live, or merge it

Put it live for a season, or bring it into Main for good.

Starter includes 1 branch at a time, Pro 3 and Business 10. Compare plans

Seasonal looks

A holiday look in December. Main again in January.

Make the branch live when the season starts. When it ends, make Main live again. Both keep their pages, so next year the holiday look is one click away.

Merging

Keep the best of both.
Merge page by page.

Like a branch for good? Bring it into Main. Orderain compares the two, page by page, before anything changes.

  • Coming in from the branch: the pages, sections and theme you changed there.
  • Changed on Main since: stays as it is.
  • Changed in both: you choose which to keep, one page at a time.

Main changes in the editor first. Publish when you are ready.

The Merge Holiday look into Main dialog: one conflict on the Shipping page to choose, the Home page, a new Gift guide page and the theme coming in from the branch, and Our story staying as it was changed on Main

Who it's for

However you change your store,
there is a way back.

For solo owners, whole teams and seasonal shops alike.

  • Version history with a theme change at 11:48 PM in the editor and the earlier named version, Before the redesign, open with Restore this version under the pointer

    Try the bold idea

Redesign late at night and decide in the morning. Every save is kept, so going back is one click.

  • Version history listing saves by Sara, Omar, Buddy and you, each with what it changed, the newest tagged Editing and the published one tagged Live

    Edit as a team

Every save carries the name of whoever made it, so you see what Sara changed on the Shipping page before you publish. No more guessing who did it.

  • The branch menu over a darker holiday store: Main is live, Holiday look is open, and Make Holiday look live is under the pointer

    Dress up for the season

Build the holiday look on a branch while customers see Main, then make it live on the day. Switch back when it ends.

Questions

What people ask
about version history.

Do I need to save versions myself?

No. Every time you save in the builder, Orderain keeps that state as a version. Name one only when you want to find it easily later.

Does restoring a version change my live store?

Pages, sections and the theme go back in the editor first, and customers see them when you publish. Your logo and brand colours are the exception: they change on your live store right away.

Will restoring touch my products, orders or customers?

No. Version history covers how your store looks: pages, sections, theme and branding. Products, orders and customers are never changed.

Is version history limited on my plan?

Every save is kept on every plan. Plans differ in how many branches you can have at a time: 1 on Starter, 3 on Pro and 10 on Business.

What is a branch?

A copy of Main, the design your customers see, that you can change freely. Use one for a redesign, a sale or a seasonal look. Customers do not see it until you make it live.

Can customers see a branch I am working on?

No. Switching branches only changes what is in your editor. Customers see your live branch, usually Main, until you make another one live.

What happens when I merge a branch into Main?

Orderain compares the two page by page. Changes from the branch come in, changes made on Main since stay, and where both changed the same page you choose which to keep. Main changes in the editor first, so you publish when you are ready.

Can Buddy use version history?

Yes. Every change Buddy makes is saved as its own version, and you can undo it from the chat. Buddy can also find a version, tell you what restoring it would change, and restore it once you confirm.

What about restore points from before this update?

They are still in your history as older versions. You can restore them, though they cannot be compared.
